Bring back the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic.
This is the view of former parliamentarian Hamilton Lashley. In fact he believes that the onus should not only lie on Government to stage the tournament but that the island’s private sector must come on board.
It is still unclear as to whether or not the competition, which started back in 2011, will go on due to the abolishment of the constituency councils that were in charge of organising the tournament.
“Government can’t shoulder it alone. The private sector should make their contribution next year to the tournament. Government’s cry will be the financial condition the country is in but the private sector has a serious role to play in the development of this country. We should get the private sector on board to plana similar tournament,” Lashley told the Saturday Sun.
Lashley, a community activist, explained the competition involved more than just “ football.” During a telephone interview he said the social development landscape it presented was critical for the island. (AGB)
