Neglect worry over disabled

The Ex-Military Servicemen’s Association has expressed concern that the neglect of the disabled will increase as Barbados becomes more developed.
The association’s president, Ricardo Swire, told the DAILY NATION that despite efforts made by governmental and civil society organizations to get more attention paid to the disabled, there was still a lot more work to be done.
“I think as the nation of Barbados modernizes and become more technologically advanced that these persons will become less visible and accountability to the individuals will also be reduced because of a reduced visibility,” he said.
Swire’s comments came ahead of a Christmas presentation to residents at the Elayne Scantlebury Home at the St Lucy District Hospital last evening. (MM)
