Cameron Bellamy rewrote the history books this morning. He became the first person to swim around Barbados without stopping.
Around 4 a.m., the South African completed the 96-kilometre swim after 41 hours in the water.
It was his second attempt at the event, all in an effort to raise funds for Variety − The Children’s Charity and Brightwater Kids in Barbados.
He is also supporting the Ubunye Challenge, a South African charity he founded aimed at helping and enabling some of the poorest and most underdeveloped areas of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Bellamy’s first attempt in September fell short. He swam for over 27 hours, from Pebbles Beach in St Michael to River Bay in St Lucy via the East Coast. He completed 66 kilometres before a shift in winds and currents made it too difficult for him to continue. (AGB)
