DLP puts people first

The Democratic Labour Party continues to carry on the vision of this country’s first Prime Minister, by empowering the working class in Barbados.
And according to Minister of International Transport, George Hutson, the Barbados Labour Party has a poor record at doing the same.
Hutson made this claim in the House of Assembly today during the debate on Government’s Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, when he also congratulated Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler, on staying the course to maintain Barbados’ head above economic water during the current recession.
“I am proud to be part of this Government,” Hutson said. “We should hold our heads high, as we have risen to the challenge and done a good job in spite of the criticism from the other side.”
Hutson said the DLP’s policy is simple, and that is putting the people first, as father of Independence and first Prime Minister, Errol Walton Barrow did by creating free education for every Barbadian.
“We are putting the people first, and what we have done is there to see. We gave school children free transportation. We increased unemployment benefits from 26 weeks to 42 weeks. We raised pensions, and we also asked the private sector to walk through these difficult times with us,” Hutson reminded the Lower House.
“Barbados is a society, and not just an economy. This is how Errol Walton Barrow saw it, and we will continue his vision of letting the people of Barbados drive the development of the country. That is the fundamental difference between these two (the DLP and BLP) parties,” the MP for St James Central asserted.
