Diabetes care centre in works

Barbados will soon have its first state-of-the-art diabetes specialist care centre.
At an estimated cost of $5.5 million, the two-storey centre will be built by the Barbados Diabetes Foundation and funded by the Maria Holder Trust and Medicor Foundation.  
The centre, to be situated at Lot B Warrens, will be designed by Vicki Telford and constructed by Niccolls and Edghill Construction Ltd. The groundbreaking took place on Wednesday.
Dr Oscar Jordan, chairman of the Barbados Diabetes Foundation, said the foundation aimed to create a specialist diabetes centre and clinic to bring together under one roof, the collective skills of all the agencies that provide diabetics with care in order to provide a holistic service capable of producing better outcomes and improve cost efficiency.
