Truck delay

Those promised new garbage trucks won’t be on Barbados’ streets just yet.

The seven trucks, expected to provide an ease to the cash-strapped and equipment-starved Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) won’t be here until late next month.

That means Barbadians may have to put up with inconsistent pick-ups into early 2019.

Minister of the Environment Trevor Prescod is asking householders facing less than reasonable refuse collection to bear with the SSA a bit longer, and continue to be patient.

“The truth is, I don’t expect those new trucks to be here until December, based on what I’m hearing, and then we have to get them on the road. There has been some filibustering, but I’m still hopeful. It was promised they would be here sometime this month but it doesn’t seem we will see them before December. We didn’t import them directly,” Prescod said. (BA)
