It was celebration time last Sunday for the footballers from the St Joseph Constituency who took part in the David Thompson Memorial Football Classic.
It all took place at the Grantley Adams Memorial School. During the awards ceremony, which was sponsored by the St?Joseph Constituency Council launched on March 26, last year.
The council put together a team in only two weeks which did well to place fourth in the competition. Special mention must be made of coach Desmond Grant, manager Denis Holder and medic Ava Griffith.
It was so nice to see and know that a rural team could have done so well. The St Joseph Constituency Council must be given high praise for a well organized evening programme with special thanks to council member Leah Garnes-O’Neale.
The feature address was given by Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development Steve Blackett.
During the ceremony, a presentation was made to six Scholarship winners; three students attending the University of the West Indies and three attending the Barbados Community College. They all received cash to help them with the cost of textbooks.
The awards to the footballers were presented by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Care Sonja Welch.
The St Joseph Council is in the process of establishing a reading programme and is seeking to make certain areas in the constituency safe by relocating bus stops that are placed in dangerous areas – such as the bus stop in Parris Hill, St Joseph.
Mirrors will be installed at various blind intersections, areas which prove dangerous for pedestrians and vehicular traffic, for example, Coffee Gully, St?Joseph.
