THERE?WERE MORE?THAN 40 VENDORS at one of the biggest and most varied flower and garden exhibitions hosted in recent times by the Barbados Horticultural Society (BHS).
BHS president Jennifer Weetch said she was delighted by the attendance at the annual event held at Balls, Christ Church.
“This year, we have had a bumper crop of vendors and I am happy about that. There have been over 40 vendors who have been involved in selling plants, art, pots and jewellery,” she said.
The Barbados Cactus & Succulent Society, Barbados Orchid Society, and organizations representing flower arranging and bonsai also contributed exhibits.
“They are all affiliated to the BHS and they come and do displays for us and the public. This is a treat for those interested in horticulture. This is the premier event to see it,”?Weetch said.
Weetch had special praise for the bird’s nest fern, a 40-year-old plant that has been a favourite with fans and judges for several years. The plant, an exhibit presented by Yolanda Gray, was the Best Fern On Show.
Judging took place Friday and yesterday morning in categories such as orchids, ornamentals, fruit and vegetables, ferns and flower arranging.
The show continues today, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. (MK)
