Tight spot

PROJECTING BARBADOS to register the second lowest growth in the region this year, the United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) says there isn’t much scope for Government to implement an economic stimulus plan.
ECLAC said evidence suggested it was becoming increasingly difficult to avoid job losses.
On the bright side, however, the UN body said the highly educated workforce and stable public institutions should help on the path to recovery.
The prognosis is contained in the recently released Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2013, in which ECLAC forecasts the Barbados economy will grow 0.7 per cent, bettering only Jamaica which is estimated to see a 0.5 per cent increase in gdp.
