It took a while in coming, but Barbados finally landed gold at the 2012 CARIFTA Games yesterday morning.
Akela Jones clinched the Under-20 girls’ long jump with a leap measured at 6.18 metres on the final day of the regional junior track and field meet at the National Sports Centre in Bermuda.
It was also Barbados’ first gold medal in the event since 1981 and went some way in atoning for the disappointment on the opening two days.
Here, Jones, who captured silver in the high jump the previous day, going airborne on the way to winning the long jump.
