GOVERNMENT is working on a plan that could save the jobs of the 500 Almond Beach Village workers expected to go home by monthend.
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy said yesterday several options to assist the employees at the island’s largest hotel plant were under consideration, but did not elaborate.
Sealy told the SUNDAY SUN he was “saddened” by the impending closure of the 400-room resort. He gave the assurance that Government was doing all it could to be able to offer workers a lifeline when their employment ceases.
“No one wants to see people being deprived of their livelihoods at a time like this,” he said. “There is not exactly a huge demand for jobs out there . . . . I can say to you that Government is right now assessing some options that are in fact aimed at ideally trying to preserve the jobs in the longrun.
