As Barbados celebrated its 46th year of Independence, pre-tournament favourites Akademiks gave their supporters from the Pine something else to cheer about when they won the LIME Pelican Football Challenge at Kensington Oval Friday night.
When the dust had settled, Mario Harte’s 89th-minute strike was all that separated the Pine-based side from Phoenix UFO Toyota Fire House in the grand finale.
Akademiks’ players and supporters couldn’t contain their joy after the final whistle.
