Inniss wants meeting with Opposition

MINISTER WITH RESPONSIBILITY for international business Donville Inniss wants to meet with the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to discuss the country’s international business and financial services sector.
He said he had already signalled to Opposition Leader Mia Mottley that he was willing to engage her and her team as early as next week if necessary to “have a full discussion” on the critical sector.
He was speaking to the media this morning at the Radisson Aquatica Beach Resort during a break in a meeting of ministries responsible for international business and financial services in CARIFORUM.
CARIFORUM is the body comprising CARICOM and the Dominican Republic which negotiates with the European Union.
“As far as I’m concerned there are no secrets. There’s no harm in engaging the Opposition,” Inniss said.
He noted that a “national approach” must be taken and he wanted the BLP to be fully aware of what Government was doing to get more from the sector.
“These are not issues that we have to play DLP (Democratic Labour Party) and BLP politics with. There must be a level of maturity that will have to govern this sector going forward,” he stressed. (NB)
