It was mass confusion at the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) as 62 of its 200 workers were laid off on Wednesday.
Clueless and shocked about what was going on, chief executive officer Shawn Tudor said he was appalled by the situation, as it was utterly unnecessary.
From as early as 8 a.m., workers from four of the BADMC branches were sent home, with the headquarters in Fairy Valley, Christ Church, being hardest hit – 54 were dismissed from there.
When a DAILY NATION team visited to inquire about the closure of the farm shops there and at Spring Hall, St Lucy, Tudor, who appeared uneasy, said he was unaware of the closure, which had been announced in a Barbados Government Information Service press release on Tuesday. (SB)
