Liat passengers stranded again

LIAT PASSENGERS CROWDED the Grantley Adams International airport (GIA) again yesterday as the airline faced another day of flight cancellations because of a pilots’ sick out.Among the stranded was Marian McIntyre who missed her mother’s funeral in Grenada yesterday.The Canadian resident arrived in Barbados on Wednesday afternoon and was scheduled to arrive in Grenada Wednesday night.“I have my family’s funeral clothes in my suitcase. I called this morning and my brother was very upset because he didn’t buy anything to wear. I got somewhere to stay last night and I came back to the airport at 5 a.m. A manager came said, ‘you guys go home’. But I am not from here and I have no family or friends here,” said McIntyre who was close to tears.Joanne Iyokho landed in Barbados from New York around 1 p.m on Wednesday with her 7 children, including her nine-year-old diabetic daughter. Iyokho and her family, were scheduled to fly to St Vincent on LIAT Wednesday afternoon.St Lucian-born Michaela Canchion, who was scheduled to leave the island Wednesday night, sat on the airport’s “cold floor” angry with the  airline’s management.“We have no where to sleep. we have nothing to eat. All our money is finished and they would watch us in our face and  tell us they are not responsible. That is ridiculous. LIAT managers need to pay the pilots their money.” “We do not want to stay in Barbados because Barbados is too boring. Their planes are always late, their planes are too noisy and some of their workers are very rude,” said Canchion.
