No water to foster

Residents of Fosters, St John, are begging for some answers on what has happened to their water supply.  Yesterday, Steve Mayers complained: “This is two to three days that there was no water in this area. The water has been going off too often for the last two months and no one seems to know why, or say when the problem will be fixed.”Mayers added: “When calls were made to the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) we were told that there was work being done to fix a burst pipe and we should get some water, but no water is coming.”Saying that the problem had been in existence for the past two months, several other concerned residents reported that it had been amplified within the last two weeks, with the water being off every day. One resident said the water comes on late at night when everyone is asleep and persons have to be fortunate enough to wake up in time to catch some water.Another resident was observed returning home with commercial bottled water. “Things are so bad that you have to buy water now,” he remarked.  He added that the water tankers did not visit the area regularly and when they did the water was dirty and not suitable for drinking. “We would really like to know where the BWA sources the water distributed in the water tankers,” he added.Mayers and other residents said they are forced to travel to the East Coast or Bathsheba to catch water or even have their baths. He said: “Some days you would have to get the truck and drive to Bathsheba, have a bath, catch some water and head back home”.Another resident said: “It is appreciated that there will be water outages from time to time, but we need an explanation on why it has been going off so often.” She added that if the problem cannot be fixed, the BWA should at least say something to the residents about the situation.
