MVP Peter Alleyne had a game-high 27 points as British American Insurance Jackson set up today’s highly-anticipated semi-final showdown against Lumber Company Lakers by downing DC United 68-57 in the knockout quarter-finals at the Wildey Gymnasium on Sunday.
Swingman Levar Greaves added ten points to help Alleyne and company overcome Shawn “Midnight” Henry’s torrid 25-point performance.
Led by reserve forward Ormond Haynes’ season-high 18 points, Lakers survived Nicholls Baking Cougars’ first quarter flurry from behind the arc before securing their semi-final spot with a comfortable 76-57 victory.
Cougars started the contest with seven threes in the opening period before cooling thereafter as the league leaders got valuable contributions from bench players Ian Alexander and Jamario Grazette with 11 points each.
Title contenders Pinelands got some measure of revenge for losing last year’s league final when they ended Mpact Station Hill Cavs’ knockout reign in a stunning 77-65 decision, behind Ramon Simmons’ 20 points.
National forward Charles Vanderpool chipped in with 15 and Decarlo Skeete added 13 to help defeat the reigning league champs, who got a team-high 18 points from Corey Williams.
Pinelands face Tridents in today’s other semi-final at the YMCA as the schoolboys had previously beaten Act II Popcorn Clapham Bulls 63-55 on Saturday.
