BARBADIANS COMPLAINING about high electricity bills have been told that the worst may be yet to come.
International oil prices are predicted to rise and it would be unrealistic to expect the Barbados Light & Power Company not to pass on the increase to electricity users or to expect Government to subsidize it for “any extended period of time”, the company’s chief marketing officer Stephen Worme said yesterday.
“It is not that things cannot be done [to ease the situation], but what people have to realize is that this . . . rather than get better, may even get worse,” he said. “There are predictions of oil prices even going higher and to think that a company can absorb [them] or a government can subsidize for any extended period of time is really a dreamer’s paradise.”
Worme made the comments on Getting Down To Brass Tacks, a talk show hosted by the Voice of Barbados radio station. (TY)
