PARAMARIBO, Suriname – Four people, including the son of a local shipping magnate, were killed when the speedboat in which they were occupants crashed against a pontoon near Overbridge River Resort on Sunday.
The authorities named the dead persons as Ravin Pahladsingh, the son of shipping magnate Radjen Pahladsingh; Daniel Ramawadoebe and Shaief Jahangier.
Police were still searching for the body of the fourth unidentified person on Monday.
Two survivors were admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
Hundreds of boat owners take to the Suriname River on weekends, cruising upstream to the sandbank in the middle of the river or popular relaxation spots like Overbridge. (CMC)
