THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL (QEH) is seeking to fill the post of consultant cardiologist (paediatrics) – a position held by Dr Richard Ishmael since 2007.
This was confirmed yesterday by director of human resources at the QEH, Charmaine Napoleon-Ramsay.
She said the post had first been advertised internally and after there were no applications, a decision was taken to place the advertisement in national newspapers.
The director did not comment on Ishmael’s tenure, but MIDWEEK NATION investigations indicated that the specialist, now locked in a court battle with the QEH, is yet to initial a new contract.
Yesterday was the second day of the civil suit brought by Ishmael against the QEH arising from his suspension by management earlier this year.
Ishmael has sued the QEH, alleging breaches of contract and has asked the High Court to restrain management of the hospital from holding an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding his suspension. He is also seeking damages and costs.
With regard to the advertised post, Napoleon-Ramsay said that if there were no suitable applications from Barbados, then the QEH would have to advertise regionally or even farther afield.
