DEAR CHRISTINE: Will do anything to help my daughter

Dear Christine,
I hope this letter reaches you in good health. Keep up your good work; you are a blessing.
I need your help. I have two children, a five-year-old daughter and a four-month-old son. The baby’s father takes care of him, but the girl’s father does nothing for her.
I never asked him for much because I worked and supported her myself, but now I am not working it’s tough. Just sending her to school is a task. When she sees the other kids with snacks and juices, she stares.
It kills me that I can’t do for her like I used to.
I am writing to ask your help with anything, even a job. A 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job would be best as I don’t have anyone to keep them at night, plus the baby cries a lot.
I am computer literate and well-spoken. I know my way around an office and can do anything.
I also like working with elderly people like taking care of them. Whatever you can do for me Christine I will accept. Thank you in?advance.

Dear KW,
My heart goes out to you as you try to cope with this personal challenge. The natural instinct of a mother is to protect her child and provide the best for him/her, even if that means sacrificing her own happiness. So it cannot be easy for you to know your daughter is in need and cannot help her.
From what you say, it seems her father does not pay child support. If he was, that would lighten your burden as there would be some money coming in to support her.
You have to ensure that he lives up to his responsibility by providing for her upkeep. The only way he can be made to do this is by insisting he pays child support through the courts. Even if you were always reluctant to go this route, it is crunch time now and you need to make him face-up to his duty.
I know some women dislike this idea, but the reality is that you have got to look after the long-term interest of your child. So even if you want to have nothing to do with the man after the two of you have separated, I urge you to consider this route.
In the interim I will put out a special appeal to anyone who may need someone to work for them to contact us so that we can put this young lady in contact with you.
– Christine
