Take care of your body, do not let anyone destroy it and you will live long.
This is the advice from the island’s latest centenarian Jerome Best who today joined the elite club of over 30 centenarians in Barbados and is one of the few males who have reached this milestone.
Congratulations poured in from family, friends and well-wishers who took time out this morning to celebrate with him.
As he sat with his only daughter Gwendolyn Bowen at her home in Bridge Gap, Black Rock, St Michael Home, Best relaxed and shared a drink with Governor General Sir Clifford Husbands, and reminisced on his younger days when he worked as a carpenter.
Best, who lives alone at Goodland, St Michael, said: “I feel really good to reach 100, but I did not expect to reach 2011. I remember when I was 18, 19 years and I was wondering if I would ever get to 30 and now I have long gone past that several times”, he said with a chuckle.
