Haldene Forde was the toast of the Barbados blind cricket team yesterday.
The partially sighted player, who is classified B3, hit an unbeaten 122 off 75 balls to spur the local side to an easy nine-wicket victory over Change For Change England All Stars at Queen’s Park.
Set 213 to win in 25 overs, Barbados lost only one wicket and cruised home in 19.2 overs.
The run-chase was a virtual one-man show with Forde dominating the attack.
He struck 14 fours and shared in successive partnerships of 41 with Anthony Cummins, a totally blind player who made ten, and Mark Goddard, a partially blind player, who made an unbeaten 22 in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 172.
Barbados’ total was beefed up by a healthy contribution of 59 extras.
Change For Change England All Stars, who batted first after winning the toss, made a competitive total of 212 for four thanks to an unbeaten 60, from David Townley, a totally blind player, and 50 by Simon Ledwith, a partially blind batsman. (HG)
