King reaches consolation final

DARIAN KING has advanced to another final.Barbados’ No.1 tennis junior reached the consolation final of the boys’ single draw at the inaugural World Youth Olympic Games in Singapore after coming from behind to beat Slovakia’s Filip Horansky 0-6, 7-6 (2), 10-6 in a three-set nail-biter yesterday.King next faces Macedonia’s Stefan Micov, who also had to survive a three-set showdown in his semi-final encounter. On the track, CARIFTA athletes Tremaine Maloney and Shavonne Husbands failed to advance to their respective “A” finals, having to settle for the “B” finale instead in the 400 metres hurdles and 200 metres respectively.Maloney was a bit off his personal and season’s best time of 53.29 seconds, posting 53.86 out of lane two to come third in heat 3, while Husbands finished fourth in her heat after running 25.08 seconds. However, CARIFTA gold medallist Anthonio Mascoll continued his rich vein of form, qualifying for the “A” final of the 1 000 metres.
