THERE IS NO outbreak of the diarrhoea and vomiting bug rotavirus in Barbados.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John gave that assurance yesterday after messages circulating via Blackberry broadcasts warning parents of children age five and under of an outbreak of the virus.
When contacted by the DAILY NATION, Dr St John made it clear that the message had not originated from her department and that there was no spike in the number of rotavirus cases.
“We have not sent out any advisory or alert about any rotavirus outbreak so we don’t know where that came from; neither are we having problems with rotavirus,” she said, adding that there were no more cases than normally occur at this time of year.  (DP)
