Government has decided to buy Almond Beach Village in St Peter and wants to reopen the 400-room resort at the earliest possible time.
It hopes that the purchase of the 32-acre property, which was shuttered at the end of April last year, will help to revive the country’s flagging tourism numbers as well as create hundreds of jobs at a time of growing employment insecurity.
“This latest development will allow the 400 rooms at the Almond Beach Village to be put back in operation in a manner that will positively impact our tourist arrivals in 2014,” the Barbados Tourism Investment (BTI) Inc., the national tourism development agency, said in a news release about the proposed deal yesterday.
