The Bridgetown Port teemed with activity from hundreds of cruise ship passengers yesterday, but it was a mixed bag of fortunes for businesses operating in the Port.
Over 4 000 passengers from the cruise ship MSC Divina spent the day in Barbados and from early in the morning there was a frenzy of activity in the cruise terminal with several of the visitors boarding tour buses to explore the island while others headed for the beaches.
Captain Pier Paolo Scala welcomed local tourism and Port officials, as well as representatives from Goddard’s Shipping and Tours, on board the Italian cruise liner for an exchange of plaques in keeping with the custom of ships visiting for the first time.
The MSC Divina maintains eastern and western Caribbean itineraries, but called at Barbados as part of a south-bound cruise from Miami to Brazil, where the ship will be engaged in charters for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. There were about 200 Brazilians on board yesterday.
