She’s already the queen of the Caribbean. But don’t tell that to Akela Jones. She just keeps getting better and better and continues to leave track and field records in her wake.
Her latest wasn’t exactly unexpected.
Jones added another major achievement to her growing list when she broke this country’s national long jump record Thursday night at the M. Miller Blackwell Stadium in Alabama.
On her second attempt, Jones leaped 6.55 metres, erasing the 6.43 metres set by Cherita Howard, now Cherita O’dell, 18 years ago on April 13, 1996, also in the United States.
