PETROL STATION DEALERS are several thousands of dollars in the red as a result of an upsurge in bounced cheques.
The situation has become so bad, the dealers reported yesterday, that some of them are considering eliminating cheques as a method of payment.
“It has become a real challenge on business and quite a large portion are not collectible,” managing director of Oistins Esso Automart, Carlton Proute, told the WEEKEND NATION.
He also noted that efforts to collect the outstanding debts were met not only with false promises but with abuse and hostility as well.
