Grassfires in six parishes kept fire officials busy today.
Reports from the Barbados Fire Service Headquarters at Probyn Street were that firefighters battled the blazes at different points during the day.
The fires were at Beulah, St Philip; Cave Hill, St Lucy; Indian Ground, St Peter; Haynes Hill, St John ; West Terrace, St James and Graeme Hall, Christ Church.
The latter grassfire at the Graeme Hall Swamp occurred around 2:30 p.m.
Chief Fire Officer Wilfred Marshall said that at this time of year high levels of grass and rubbish fires were recorded.
“The first quarter is usually high and we ask people to be careful even though we can’t always pinpoint the cause,” Marshall said. (AC)
