WITH JOB CUTS IMMINENT, Barbados Economic Society president Shane Lowe is urging Government to also focus on the “structural reforms” needed to grow the economy.

This, he said, would ensure Barbadians on the breadline would be able to find new employment.

In a national address on Sunday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that no more than 1 500 public sector workers would be going home within the next few weeks.

She said this was a key part of her administration’s efforts to reduce its expenditure, having entered an International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement.

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s address, Lowe told the Nation structural changes to boost economic growth were urgently required.(SC)
