ONE OF THIS ISLAND’S MOST SUCCESSFUL insurance executives called it quits last Friday.
Wismar Greaves stepped down as managing director and CEO of Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited, a company he led for 17 years of consistent growth. Greaves has also retired from ICBL’s board of directors.
He took the company from a statutory corporation to its premier position as the island’s leading general insurance company.
ICBL’s chairman John Wight commended Greaves on his tenure: “Through his leadership and dedication to the company, ICBL has grown to be the major player in the Barbados insurance marketplace that it is today. The board wishes to express its gratitude to Mr Greaves and wish him every success in the future.”
The board announced the appointment of Goulbourne Alleyne as deputy CEO. He will also be acting CEO until Greaves’ successor is announced.
Wight noted that Alleyne, a Barbadian, started his insurance career in 1983 working for ICBL and held several senior management positions in the insurance industry in Barbados, including senior vice-president, Insurance Operations, for Sagicor General.
For the past three years he has been working in Bermuda for BF&M as vice-president, Underwriting and Claims. (MM)
