Most of the teachers at Alexandra School won’t be showing up for classes today, and the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) has warned of similar action at other schools.
Following through on a threat to withdraw their labour over longstanding problems with principal Jeff Broomes, 30 teachers – including eight of nine department heads and four of the school’s senior teachers – yesterday gathered at the BSTU headquarters, the Patrick Frost Centre.
President Mary Redman told the MIDWEEK NATION that instead of reporting today for the first day of teaching this term, they would meet again at headquarters “to strategize further”.
“We will also begin our meetings at other schools to sensitize our membership as it relates to their possible involvement since this situation at Alexandra School may escalate to include all of the schools where we have members,” she said.
