THE EXCLUSIVE ROYAL WESTMORELAND ESTATE has clinched the top award of Best International Golf Development at the International Residential Property Awards, according to the online publication Westmoreland Gazette.
It reported that the estate also won six other awards at the glittering event held at The Savoy, London. Royal Westmoreland went head to head with a number of regional finalists.
The International Property Awards is the world’s most prestigious property competition throughout the industry and covers residential as well as commercial categories.
Royal Westmoreland’s chief executive officer, Greg Schofield, told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY he was told that the estate won the coveted award but was still awaiting official word out of Britain.
He said the award meant that they must have been doing something right.
“For the resort, it is great, and of course it is great for Barbados. We fared better than most [properties] during the recession we’ve been having . . . . It is the combination of properties and the experience people get from the staff when they are here. So we have been lucky the most,” Schofield said.
‘Fantastic endorsement’
The awards won by Royal Westmoreland at the event were the International Residential Property Awards – Best International Golf Development, Americas Residential Property Awards – 5 Star – Best Golf Development Caribbean, Americas Residential Property Awards – 5 Star – Best Golf Development Americas, Americas Residential Property Awards – Highly Commended – Developer Website Caribbean, Americas Residential Property Awards – 5 Star – Best Multiple Development Caribbean, Americas Residential Property Awards – 5 Star – Best Multiple Development Americas, and Americas Residential Property Awards – 5 Star – Best Development Caribbean.
John Morphet, of Milnthorpe, England, owner of Royal Westmoreland, said: “These awards are a fantastic endorsement and are testament to the investment made over the last seven years in the estate to improve the golf course and facilities for residents and guests. We provide all the ingredients for a truly exceptional lifestyle in one of the most beautiful and sought after regions of the world, so it’s wonderful to see recognition of this.”
Meanwhile Stuart Shields, president of the International Property Awards, was quoted as saying that “winning a coveted World’s Best” was a huge accolade for the companies.
Royal Westmoreland is a golf, beach and spa estate. It is set across approximately 750 acres of land in the parish of St James.
The estate, made up of luxurious villas, apartments and penthouses, is also home to a championship golf course. (MM)
