DONVILLE INNISS is the new general secretary of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
The Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development secured 173 votes at the party’s annual conference, held over the weekend at the DLP’s George Street Auditorium – just two more votes than incumbent George Pilgrim – to become one of five Cabinet ministers to hold positions on the executive.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart was returned to the position of president unopposed while Chris Sinckler was elected first vice-president, John Boyce second vice president and Richard Sealy third vice president. Verla Depeiza, the DLP’s unsuccessful candidate for Christ Church West in the last general elections, was elected fourth vice-president.
Senator Andre Worrell now holds the position of assistant general secretary. (DP)
