Plane scare

A small plane ran off the runway at the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday but no one was injured.
Airport spokesman Keith Goddard said the twin engine six-seater aircraft belonging to Executive Air ran off the runway at about noon.
“Four people were on board – two pilots and two passengers – and we are very pleased to report there were no fatalities or serious injuries,”?he said.
Emergency agencies were alerted when the aircraft gave notice that it was making an emergency return to Barbados after it was originally headed to Grenada.
Mitchinson Beckles, the Director of Civil Aviation, blamed the mishap on the collapsing of the plane’s wheels during landing.
“The aircraft departed Barbados and the pilot retracted the wheels but realized there was an indication they were not retracting properly so he decided to land,”?he said.
“Upon landing, he ensured he put the wheels back down, but afterwards the wheels collapsed, causing the accident.”
