Students are increasingly being asked to take responsibility for their own education.
In a move that has taken root at the secondary level and is spreading across the system in both newer and older schools, students and their parents have to sign a binding document.
Several schools are requiring returning fifths to sign a students’ contract, with the latest being Grantley Adams Memorial under new principal David Browne.
These students are 16-year-olds and would have fulfilled the legal requirement for children to be in school and the right to receive at least five years of secondary education. Principals essentially use their discretion in allowing students to return to acquire additional qualifications. (YB)
