Rain, thunder and lightning combined to make the lives of some Frederick Smith Secondary School students distinctly miserable yesterday.
First, a power outage caused by a lightning strike at the Carlton, St James substation caused classes to be suspended. While this is sometimes considered a good thing by some students, yesterday it meant they had to make their way home through rising floodwaters.
Many of them were forced to discard shoes and socks and brave the weather barefoot. The loud thunder crashing overhead did nothing to help the situation either, as some of the more fearful female students screamed at each peal.
The Barbados Meteorological Office said the inclement weather was the result of a trough system and predicted it would continue today. (CA)
