Locals and tourists alike were treated to the suave sounds of several local performers at the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries (BCSI) Sunset Concert by the Beach, held at the Barbados Beach Club last Friday.
A culmination of the National Services Week of activities, the concert saw as many as 13 acts – a mixture of new and established – grace the stage for a predominantly acoustic night.
The night included a number of performances by up-and-coming performers out of Hit Island Studios, including model/actress Akasha Kunar, young rapper Jacques, and Rhea, who all performed original material.
The second half featured a dream cast of performers. The sultry voices of Debbie Reifer, Rochelle Griffith and Ch’an contrasted well with the mellow, positive vibes of Damien Marvay and Simon Pipe. Marvay in particular received great response from the crowd for his moving cover of Bob Marley’s Forever Loving Jah.
The highlight, however, came when winners of the recently concluded Ryan Seacrest Maroon 5 Cover Competition and the night’s backing band NexCyx performed.
Initially scheduled for a short three song set to end the night’s performances, the vocal crowd begged for an encore – and got two.
At the request of the audience, the group performed an impromptu acoustic version of Moves Like Jagger as well as their high energy song On The Floor.
t was just the punch needed to end a night of wonderful entertainment and a week celebrating service excellence.
National Services Week is an initiative by the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries aimed at highlighting the various services sectors and providing networking opportunities for its members. (AB)
