BANKS SPORTS CLUB is moving to a new home at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) with a sense of disappointment that its long-time corporate partners Banks Holdings Limited (BHL) did not make provision for a cricket ground in its developed operations.
After 49 years of playing at its popular Wildey, St Michael ground, the club was forced to seek an alternative venue for the 2013 domestic season following the sale of the Banks Breweries plant and accompanying ground and clubhouse last year.
Against the background of the rich history Banks Sports Club enjoyed at Wildey, including winning the Barbados Cricket Association’s Division 1 title on five occasions, including three times since the turn of the century, long-standing club president Mark Estwick was unhappy over the departure from their former home.
“We are tremendously distressed at the situation. It is a lot of history that we haveto go and leave,” Estwick told WEEKENDSPORT yesterday.
“We are very disappointed that the company didn’t seek to make any provision for a new ground for the club and the cricketers after they have given so much service and boost to Banks, the company. They could have sold the buildings and keep the ground.
