Worrell: Not all doom and gloom

Central Bank Governor Dr DeLisle Worrell has admitted that life is tough for many Barbadians.
But the country’s chief economic advisor said the current problems facing the country had to be put in perspective, contending that when compared to many nations “our reality is a positive one”.
His comments came today as he fielded questions from the media during a news briefing at the Tom Adams Financial Centre, Bridgetown, following the release of the country’s economic performance review for the first three months of 2013.
That report showed a contraction of the economy of 0.4 per cent, a widening deficit of 7.3 per cent at year-end, falling tourist arrivals and spending, a drop in tax receipts and a slight increase in unemployment.
Faced with these challenges, Worrell insisted that the situation was not all doom and gloom.
