GEORGETOWN – President Bharrat Jagdeo has sold his Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara property to Guyana’s honorary consul to Trinidad and Tobago, Ernie Ross, his lawyer confirmed Tuesday. In a statement prompted by “inquiries from various Press outfits” and “to avoid a public dissemination of misinformation and unnecessary speculation,” attorney Anil Nandlall said he handled the sale of the Lot 135 Block 1 Plantation property for the agreed purchase price of US$600 000 (or $1 200 000). He added that US$120 000 was paid upon the signing of the agreement of sale on May 31, and the balance of the purchase price or its equivalent in Guyana dollars is to be paid upon the passing of the transport. The agreement provides that the transport would be passed within three months from the date of the said agreement, he noted. “This entire transaction is transparent and all the documents referred to above are now public documents and can be readily accessed and scrutinised at the Deeds Registry,” Nandlall emphasised. He noted that as is required by the Deeds Registry Act, the Affidavit of Vendor, Affidavit of Purchaser and the Instructions to Advertise were duly filed with the Registrar of Deeds. Further, he noted that the said conveyance was duly advertised by the Registrar of Deeds for passing in the official Gazette on July 10, 2010 again, as is required by the act. (Stabroek News)
