ON SUNDAY MEMBERS of the St John community will unite as they participate in a praise and worship service of healing for ailing Prime Minister David Thompson.
The “praise and thanksgiving celebration”, which is scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. on the Hardcourt which is located next to the Gall Hill Playing Field, was organised by the St John parish community. During a Press confernce at the parish’s constituency office, one of the organisers of the event, senator reverend Dr David Durant, said that while the service specifically targeted residents of that parish, all Barbadians were welcomed to attend.
“All of Barbados is aware of the health challenges that have been confronting our prime minister the Honourable David Thompson in the last several months.
“As a church community, we are very well aware of our responsibility to pray for the leaders of our nation.
“We have decided to conduct a service of praise and worship in this constituency , especially in light of the letter to his [David Thompson] constituents which was published in the Daily Nation of Wednesday, October 13, 2010.
“The honourable prime minister passionately spoke about his love for the people of this parish and he again requested prayer for his recovery. Ironically, this is the first one mentioned here in St John,” explained Durant.
The senator also stressed that the event was an effort to engender a spirit of unity and peace among Barbadians and to heighten awarness of the sovereignty of God. He said local artists such as Paula Hinds, Allison Norville Forde, Adrian Clarke, Hosea Hinds, Soul Winners, Praise Academy of Dance, The Willson Hill Folk Group among others, were expected to perform.
“We do declare that our prime minister will be well and God will heal and restore strength to his body and he will rise again to continue what God had called him to do in this nation.
“We also want to pray specifically and give God thanks for healing the prime minister for his recovery on strength in his life and family.We wish to thank God for his loving kindness and mercy towards us,” he said.
Durant added: “We recognise also that it is important to keep our nation focussed on God who is able to sustain us. There is also a need for emotional and spiritual healing among the people of this parish.
We want to bring the people of St John together because so far that has not been done.
“We had a gathering in the gymnasium, but to be here in the constituency itself and to gather the people is what we think is important at this time.” (AH)
