Scammers are using fake Government of Barbados cheques to get away with groceries and cash across the island.
Yesterday police and banks issued a warning about the counterfeit cheques.
So far one man has been charged and lawmen are tracking other forgers as the imitation cheques are being used to dupe unwitting business people to get the groceries and money.
Businesses are to be on the lookout for the cheques with the stock numbers A1718386 and A1718499. However, police and bankers warned that those may not be the only ones in circulation.
Head of the Fraud Squad, Station Sergeant Mark White, explained that while the real cheques are crossed so that they must be deposited as a security measure, that is not the case with the false ones.
