ANANSI, the legendary character of African/Caribbean folklore, was on the loose at Foursquare Rum Distillery and Heritage Park, St Philip, last Sunday.
The occasion was the Crop Over Read-In and Book Fair with the theme Three Sides To Every Story. The task was given to Anansi to guide the storytellers who brought to life traditional and contemporary stories of the supernatural and the mysterious from the works of some of Barbados’ outstanding writers.
Excerpts featured in the production came from Fire In the Canes by Glenville Lovell, Kamau Brathwaite’s poem Namsetoura, Linda Deane’s poem Omolaru Is Bowling and Esther Phillips’ poem Higue, among others.
The event also saw the Barbados launch of And Sometimes They Fly by author Robert E. Sandiford. (JS)
