Drought worry

A PROMINENT SEEDLING supplier is predicting tough times ahead for vegetable farmers and vegetable lovers should the drought continue.
Junior Phillips, owner of Phillips Freighting and Farming Services, said it looked like there was going to be a shortage of vegetables which in turn would drive up prices.
“I can guarantee that, if this drought continues, Barbados will be short of vegetables and I anticipate crop prices will go up,” he told the SATURDAY?SUN in a telephone interview yesterday.
Phillips said he catered to “a few hundred” farmers, supplying crops such as cabbage, sweet peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and herbs but his operation had been so adversely affected by a shortage of water, he was struggling to keep his crops alive. (CA)
