Employees Race Day at Garrison

The Barbados Turf Club pays tribute to some of its former employees with the staging of the BTC Employees Race Day tomorrow at the Garrison Savannah.
Eight races are scheduled for the seventh day of the Turf Club’s first racing season.
There are two very interesting route races over 1 800 metres on the card which starts at 1:45 p.m. The first is the Antonia Corbin Memorial Trophy Handicap for three-year-old and older horses rated 55-75. This event, which is also open to horses rated 54 and below, will see no less than three winners of their last start. These include Victor Ludorum taking122 pounds, Jade Temple down to carry 121 pounds and Rickoshey, shouldering 124 pounds. However, top weight in this event goes to Aysha Syndicates’ Fusaichi Ridge who has been given 130 pounds.
What makes this race even more interesting is that three other horses have also entered winners enclosure in one of their last two starts; namely Chatter Box (110), Wild Fire (124) and Midnight Touch (116).
The Oscar “Lock” Padmore Memorial Handicap looks to have plenty of intrigue about it but less demanding in terms of finding a winner. This race is restricted to four-year-old and older horses rated 25-45.
The Christopher Gibbs-owned Northern Sheriff pencilled to carry the top impost of 130 pounds – a tough assignment in her quest to lose her maiden tag.
Rahy’s Promise and Cassanova are the only ones to have recorded a win from recent efforts. They are down to carry 124 and 123 pounds respectively.
Uneverno (126), Grenadilla (120), Atomic Bomb (127) and Jamaica Quill (125) are all very worthy opponents. Dipitinmoney, with the light penny stamp of 111, appears one to consider seriously.
Race 3 is the Charles “Smally” Small Memorial Handicap Division ‘B’ over 1 570 metres with top weight of 130 pounds in this event for three-year-old and older horses rated 35-55 and also open to horses rated 34 and below going to Steppin Razor and Royal Spirit, both of whom have been displaying erratic form.
The leading contender should be the A Team-owned Indian Soul who has now reeled off two victories in her last four tries. Although she is down to carry 129 pounds, I suspect she will be better served retaining her apprentice rider claim. Whatadeal (127) is in good form and the same can be said of Wingman who is down to take 128 pounds.
Just Jiving, aged 10, will be looking to upset the apple cart. He is one that can certainly have his chances enhanced with an apprentice claim.
