Police enforcing Precious Metals Act

Police are moving to enforce the Precious Metals and Second Hand Metals Act 2013 which took effect from January 31, 2013.
As a result, police are informing individuals who intend to operate as precious metal dealers or second hand metals dealers to immediately register to ensure compliance with the applicable legal requirements.
In a release today from the police, public relations officer Inspector David Welch said it was also a legal requirement that persons who are registered as either precious metals dealers or second hand metals dealers operate from a fixed and registered location.
“The practice of encouraging people, through advertisement, to meet at places other than registered places of business for metal dealers, to purchase metals should be discontinued as it facilitates the commission of a criminal offence.” (CM/PR)
