Workers’ woe

TRADE?UNIONIST ORLANDO SCOTT has called on the Barbados Water Authority to step up some of its health and safety measures in relation to working conditions for dozens of employees at the Bowmanston pumping station.
Scott, assistant general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, made this plea after a work stoppage at the St John site that saw nearly 100 employees staying off the job.
He spent close to four hours at Bowmanston talking with both staff and management about a number of safety and environmental issues.
“I?had to tell management that in a lot of ways they are not compliant with the new legislation.
