Forty young people will enter the world of work with the telecommunications giant LIME today in the company’s 2010 Summer Internship Programme. The recruits are drawn from secondary schools, the Barbados Community College, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and the University of the West Indies.  The students were welcomed to the programme last Friday by LIME’s Managing Director, Alex McDonald, and other members of staff in a launch ceremony at the Barbados Community College. Head of Human Resources at LIME (Landline, Internet, Mobile, Entertainment), Stephanie Catling-Birmingham, told the students it was up to them to determine what they made of the next eight weeks at the company and what they left with after the stint had ended. Senator Kerryann Ifill, Deputy President of the Senate, urged the young workers to be mindful of their approach to their jobs. “Be passionate, be excited … view each day that you go to work as another opportunity to make a difference,” she said. The interns will be spread across the company in areas such as retail sales, finance, legal matters, marketing, service delivery and technology.
